Yesterday, I had my first traffic citation: by "running a stop sign.."
I just dropped off Tesha to her dorm cuz we studied in the library. My mind was tired thinking of a certain problem in my Statics HW. I figured I would go talk to my teacher since i was getting nowhere. So I headed to the UC parking lot even tho there is a VERY slim chance that there is any space open. Usually, I park in the lot slightly farther from the building at that time of the day. I have no idea what got into my head at that moment.
I was turning left to the parking in front of the UC (University Center, to those who doesn't know) when i realized I came in too fast. I was preoccupied with the thought of my statics HW. i just realized I didnt come into a full stop after I made the turn... and then I saw the police car lurking on the side of the street.
I hoped he didn't see my lil stupidity. That hope was shattered when I realized he was following me inside the lot with his light thingy on the roof turned on. I stopped and, using his megaphone, he ordered me to pull into a parking space. i proceeded as ordered but there was none available. He just asked me to stop on the side of the parking lot.
he went got off his car as my heart raced. He finally reached my window and he then asked for my license and insurance. He said he won't tell me my offense until i give him those. I think he thought i am refusing to give my license when I said "im sorry , come again?"
As promised, he told me my offense. "I stopped you because you failed to come to a full stop on the stop sign" or something like that. Since "being preoccupied with HW" is not quite an excuse, i didn't waste my time contesting. I was too tired and pissed to even do that.
In short, he got my license and went back to his car. Another police car arrived and the driver chatted with him. I don't know for sure but I think he was purposely annoying me by not filling in the papers right away. he instead sat there and shared stories with his co-cop. This was also the time I saw students staring at me as if I am a naked woman sitting in the driver's seat. For some reason, they didn't even have the decency to avoid letting me know they are looking at "the scene." Yep, it was embarrassing. I was trying my best to act cool but i felt their stares going thru the glass and searing my skin.
After several minutes, the cop gave my stuff back to me and explained some more stuff in an official sounding voice that seemed like a recording from an answering machine of a government office. When I asked him to repeat a part of that (about the court stuff), he just told me everything was in the back of the citation sheet. He let me go so i proceeded to the other parking lot to rest. I sat there for a couple of minutes to contemplate. Mark Yebra just officially became a juvenile delinquent.
Just the other day, I was thinking that I won't ever have a blemish on my record. Its sad to think that was changed just after a day.
Honestly, up to now, I can't believe what I did. I was sooo stupid, and nonetheless, so guilty. I just found out that the fine is $111. Gosh.... Just after getting "taunted" by the cop is horryfying enough. Just being stared upon by ppl is a lesson embarrasing enough. Why do I have to pay $111.00!!?!?!? Even my mom is blaming me. However we planned not to mention this to my dad. that is good for me because im sure i will get more blame and insult from him. Owell. I don't like this feeling. I feel like i'm a toddler that got caught stealing from the cookie jar. All this for running a stop sign?
Well, as my friend Dayna said, it is the law. Also, im unquestionably guilty. this is me, I have to suffer.
Now, I wish I was a naked woman in the driver's seat. That way, I would only have gotten a warning...
